I challenge Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to, within 24 hours, release to the Malaysian public the full documents of his petition for Royal Pardon submitted to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong prior to his release from prison on 16 May 2018.
Only through such disclosure can Malaysians know exactly what Anwar requested from the King.
Official records show that Anwar submitted three petitions for pardon:
1. 16 March 2015 – rejected by the King
2. 27 February 2017 – rejected by the King
3. 16 May 2018 – granted by the King
These documents will prove whether:
• He applied solely for a pardon under Article 42 of the Federal Constitution; or
• He also sought the lifting of his disqualification to contest elections under Article 48(3) of the Constitution.
The public must also know whether, in seeking clemency, Anwar admitted to his crimes.
Traditionally, an inmate seeking a royal pardon first acknowledges guilt, expresses deep remorse, and places himself entirely at the mercy of the King. Did Anwar do this? Malaysians deserve to know.
For the sake of national interest and transparency, Anwar must immediately make public his full petition for pardon. Is he prepared to do so? The Malaysian people are waiting.
