I have been summoned to Bukit Aman on 14 September 2026 for an investigation under the Sedition Act, section 505(b) of the Penal Code and section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.

I was informed that this concerns an open letter I wrote last year to the Presidents of PAS and UMNO — two prominent political party leaders, one of whom leads a party that is today part of PMX’s own Unity Government.

If this alleged offence occurred last year, the obvious question is: why investigate it now? What has suddenly changed — the alleged offence, or the political climate?

More troubling is that this investigation is being handled not at an ordinary district level, but by the Unit Siasatan Jenayah Terkelas (USJT), D5, Bukit Aman — a specialised unit which has historically investigated high-profile and sensitive cases. What is it about an open political letter written more than a year ago to the Presidents of PAS and UMNO that has suddenly warranted the attention of this specialised federal investigation unit?

And if the letter was supposedly capable of causing “fear or alarm”, who has suddenly become fearful or alarmed more than a year later?

The timing raises serious questions. At a time when the Government is facing political setbacks and growing public dissatisfaction, criminal investigations and prosecutions against political figures appear to be becoming increasingly commonplace.

Is PMX now so politically insecure that political disagreement must be confronted with the machinery of criminal law?

Perhaps the Government is particularly worried about the growing disillusionment among Malaysian Indians — a community whose electoral support was crucial to the 39 parliament seat victory for PKR and Amanah in the last General Election.

Indian voters are entitled to question whether the promises made to them have been fulfilled. Their votes are not the permanent property of PMX, PKR, DAP or any political coalition.

If PMX fears losing Indian support, the answer is simple:

Address their grievances. Honour your promises. Win back their confidence.

Do not answer criticism with the Sedition Act.
Do not answer dissent with police investigations.
And do not use the criminal justice system to manage political insecurity.

No investigation will silence me from speaking on behalf of a community that has waited far too long for justice, dignity and an equal place as citizen in this country.
